What Leviticus Says–And Doesn’t Say–About Gay People
“You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” – Leviticus 18:22 (NKJV)
This Bible is very clear only on homosexuality, I was told. It’s a sin, they said. While Leviticus 18:22 isn’t the only Bible passage trotted out to support an anti-queer agenda, it appears to be the most straightforward. But here’s the queer thing: some of my favorite Bible passages are in Leviticus. And so are some pretty awful ones.
What if we’re looking at the Bible in all the wrong ways and asking all the wrong questions? I set out to look at Leviticus and this is what I found:
